Stop Swapping Time For Money

October 20, 20252 min read

How can teachers stop swapping time for money?

When you teach a class, you get paid once.

When you coach a group, you can get paid multiple times.

When you build a course, you can get paid hundreds of times.

When you build a network, you can get paid thousands of times.

You won't find any of the above in teacher training courses.

At least I didn’t. Only when I dug deep into the underworld of business and marketing did I see the opportunities lying there in plain sight.

Here’s one of my favorite and easiest ways to get started:

Create a valuable paid network.

Example:

You have one student on Wednesday. Another on Friday. Create a space they can meet. Let’s call it your academy space.

Boom! 💥 You became a networker.

Is that valuable? Do people pay money for that?

You are essentially asking…

Is friendship valuable? Are business partnerships valuable? Is a good influence valuable? Is a relationship valuable?

These two people could go on to start a company, get married, or just share good vibes with each other. Who knows...

Do people pay for that kind of thing?

They go to war for that. They get into decade-long debt for that. They take 16-hour flights and risk everything for better networking spaces…

So, you bet, they pay for that.

Today, even more so.

The value of information is down to the floor. The value of human connection is higher than ever.

That’s one of the best ways to stop selling your time and scale your business.

Here’s where you are running a business, not a classroom.

I often describe language businesses as academies, because an academy is able to generate value and services that go beyond the narrow scope of language training.
