Fun Times?
This is the most exciting time to be a language coach.
Why? For the same reason Duolingo’s stock has been dropping.
It just became much easier for students to access language tools.
And it also became much easier for teachers to create them.
The result?
More people learning languages, not fewer.
And once learners hit the ceiling of what they can do with AI and apps…
they’ll start looking for human guidance.
Think of it as a bigger funnel:
AI apps
↓
casual learners
↓
serious learners
↓
premium coaching / programs
That last step is where the real money tends to be.
AI isn’t coming for your job.
If anything, it might be coming for Duolingo’s job.
And even then, they’ll probably pivot and do just fine.
AI dramatically expands the top of the funnel and creates demand.
Not too dissimilar to personal trainers.
More training videos
More equipment
More AI
= more trainers
More AI language tools
= more demand for great language coaches
What’s your take?
